I was first diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer in April 2000. This was the year that I thought would be 'my' year. I was looking forward to being a mother, having made a decision to go ahead with IVF treatment. New Year 2000 had been a very special time, with thoughts of a new life in the coming year.

Breast cancer put an end to those dreams. 2000 was indeed 'my' year, but not in the way that I had hoped. In 2005 I had a recurrence of the breast cancer. This web site documents the surgery that I have had, as well as chemotherapy and other therapies which complemented this.

Finding out that I had cancer made me want to find out as much as I could about it. I needed to find out why this might have happened to me and what I could do to stop it. You can find out what information I thought was worth reading and support that I have found invaluable during what is a long and difficult journey.

What's next?
As the title of this web site suggests, I found out that the diagnosis of cancer is just a first step. It is not the end, just a beginning. I found this great poem by Maureen McCutheon that pretty much sums up where I am now:

"God only knows
What the future holds.
But I have a wish
I don't want you to miss.
It's my personal view
And I'll share it with you.
I hope that I will always be,
A woman who is cancer free.
And never do I want to see
Another positive biopsy."

I'm always keen to hear from others so please feel free to contact me either through my guest book or email.
